James Whalen has announced his candidacy for the

presidency
of the residents organization. Whalen, the only candidate so far,
who often broadcasts his controversial views by e-mail in what some
believe is attempted humor, told The WIRE, "Roosevelt Island
must return to its real mother, the City of New York. That is my platform,
pure and simple. However, I have not changed my policy regarding tennis
players, tree huggers, cat lovers, body painters, Roosevelt Island
Day huggers, gay Irish Catholics, Michael Moore clones - I wish they
would move to Jersey City where they belong."
