The WIRE’s 24th year
May 29, 2004

Briefly ...

The next issue of The WIRE, originally scheduled for June 12, will appear June 19 instead. After that, the last regular issue before a reduced summer schedule will appear July 3.  It will be the business cards issue, an opportunity for Islanders to support the newspaper by publishing their business cards or business-card-size messages.  The cost is $35, and business cards (or ad text) should be sent with a check payable to The WIRE to: The WIRE, 531 Main Street, #413, Roosevelt Island, NY 10044.  Deadline is Monday, June 21.

The Roosevelt Island Bridge will be raised and lowered in tests scheduled for Monday,
June 7, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  The City’s Department of Transportation Bridge Operations Unit promises to time the three openings to minimize traffic delays, but if you have a plane to catch, plan extra time for your cab to get on and off the Island.

Senior Association President Dolores Greene and RISA Board member Ruth Kolins received Senior Service awards May 16 during ceremonies at the Island’s annual Senior Day festivities.  Public Safety Deputy Director Rene Bryan emceed the event, and Senior Center Director Rema Townsend presented the awards.
