5/22, Tram Tower #1, 300 Main St. NYPD Arrest. Officers responded to scene for report of person trying to climb Tram tower of Cabin #1. Upon conducting a search, officers observed a male climbing the maintenance ladder on the south side of Cabin #1’s Tower. Perp was observed about halfway up and appeared to be carrying a bag of beer, which he was dropping. 911 was called, a Deputy Inspector and officers responded. Tram manager was also at scene, and took Tram out of service. EMS Lt. responded, as well as NYPD ESU trucks. Tram manager and EMS officers rode Cabin #2 to top of tower, where perp was walking on maintenance cat walks. Perp cooperated with officers and was brought to Roosevelt Island on Cabin #2 without incident. Harbor launch responded. While on tower, perp stated he was upset over breaking up with his girlfriend and climbed the tower to watch the birds, but he did not want to hurt himself. He was not declared an EDP [emotionally disturbed person]. Deputy Inspector recommended that the Tram Tower be made more secure. Tram manager made a safety check of the tower, and all appeared to be in order. Director Fry, Lt. Suarez responded to the scene. Criminal Mischief 5/18, sidewalk, front of 570 Main St. RIHM porter informed PSD responding officers that he had seen underage youth kick six freshly laid bricks with wet cement and cinder blocks displacing same. RIHM super responded; value of damage is not known. Youth was escorted to PSD. Officer prepared Juvenile Report, and youth was released to his mother. 5/24, South Point Park, 200 Main St. RIOC’s Access Control Administrator (ACA) advised PSD Duty Officer on Friday afternoon he had placed fencing on the southeast corner of Southpoint Park fence to prevent entry into area at the swing over at the East Seawall. When the ACA returned to scene on 5/24, he noticed the fence had been knocked down. PSD sergeant at scene. NYPD responded, prepared report and reiterated advice given that Southpoint Park should be shut down and totally secured. 5/27, Motorgate, 4-A, 688 Main St. Male phoned PSD, reported his van’s driver’s side window was shattered, said a small flashlight was missing, and refused NYPD. A green Jeep had also been vandalized (the left rear window was smashed). 5/27, Motorgate, 3-A, 688 Main St. Officer patrolling Motorgate saw that a gray Honda had a shattered left front window, inspection, registration stickers had been ripped. Officer checked area for more vandalized vehicles with negative results. 5/28, Motorgate, 4-B, 688 Main St., Petty Larceny. While patrolling, officers noticed a car with shattered driver’s side window, notified Motorgate attendant. Subsequently owner notified officer that a case of water and a “jump start” with a total value of US$100 had been taken from vehicle. 5/30, Motorgate, 5-A, 688 Main St. Officer responded to Motorgate office, where owner of vehicle was and accompanied him to his vehicle. Officer did observe that wagon’s front door lock was missing, and ignition cover had been tampered with. Complainant stated nothing was missing. NYPD was at scene, did not prepare report at owner’s request. Photos were taken of area with negative results. 5/30, hall adj. #701, 580 Main St. Anonymous resident phoned PSD, reported a broken window at scene; first window was shattered, second window was intact. Officer searched area on the seventh floor, did not see any person(s). RIHM super covered window with cardboard, cleaned up debris. 5/31, Motorgate, 3-A, 688 Main St. Officer on patrol observed a car with a shattered driver’s side window. Officer does not know if any property was removed from vehicle. The area was searched for other vandalized vehicles with negative results. Motorgate manager was notified. Harassment/Cross Complaint 5/23, street, front of 2/4 River Rd. Officers responded to scene for report by security guard. Upon arrival they observed male and female involved in verbal dispute. Victim #2 (male) said victim #1 (female) had taken a chain from him; and victim #1 stated he grabbed it from around her neck, hurting her throat. She was transported to Elmhurst by EMS. 5/26, cabin #1/platform, 300 Main St. Officers responded to Tram platform on Island. Upon arrival female victim stated she had smelled smoke in the cabin and had asked male to stop smoking. Perp began using foul language at her and ultimately spat in her face upon arriving at Roosevelt Island platform; 911 was notified, NYPD responded, and issued a “C” summons to the male. Grand Larceny 5/27, Motorgate, 3-A, 688 Main St. Officer responded to scene for vehicle having had a window forced open. Complainant stated several items missing, among them a cellular phone for an approximate value of US$600. Victim notified NYPD directly. 5/31, Motorgate, 3-A, 688 Main St. While officer was
patrolling, officer observed a vehicle with driver’s side window pried off
its track. It is unknown at this juncture if any items are missing. Motorgate
manager was notified. Owner stated she would report incident to NYPD. [Update:
At 1:40 p.m. on 6/01, the above victim in-house and reported that
one battery charger valued at US$100, two golf bags with clubs and one additional
set of clubs are missing from the vehicle’s trunk. Total approximate value
of missing items is US$6,000; Petty Larceny 5/18, Motorgate, 8-A, 688 Main St. Male approached officer on patrol, stated unknown person(s) had damaged his car, which was parked at scene. Victim stated the rear license plate was missing, both windshield wipers were bent, and there were numerous dents on both doors. 5/31, pkg. lot, rear, 900 Main St. Male in-house, stated he had left his car parked at scene. Upon his return, he saw door locks had been damaged, as well as miscellaneous items missing, valued at approximately US$400. Victim refused NYPD. Officer did see signs of forced entry on both front doors of the car. Fire 5/30, street opp. 694 Main St. Officer responded to scene, upon arrival saw fire emanating from manhole cover, notified Duty Officer for FDNY presence, they responded, Lieutenant at scene and Con Edison was called. The manhole was an electric manhole. There were no injuries. Car Alarm Investigation 5/18, street, 531 Main St. Anonymous male phoned PSD to report car alarm sounding. Officers responded, waited five minutes and did not hear anything. Reporter called again, said alarm was sounding every 30 seconds, stated it was between Rivercross and Westview. He was advised two officers had responded, alarm was not sounding and that PSD needed to locate the vehicle before calling 114th Pct. to ascertain who was the owner. Male became irate and hung up. Ultimately vehicle was located, officer responded, owner was on scene and drove off. Criminal Tampering 5/21, Motorgate, 3-A, 688 Main St. Male resident in-house, stated that his wife left vehicle’s driver side door unlocked, and upon returning it was locked and CD tapes, etc. were strewn about. Reporter said the fuse box was open, but nothing appeared to be missing, and there was no evident damage. NYPD was refused. Motorgate manager was notified. Officers in “mufti” would be notified of the incident. Dispute 5/17, Blackwell Park, 500 Main St. Officer patrolling at scene saw underage male youth crying, asked what had happened. Youth said that while playing at the swings, another underage youth asked him to get off. When he did not comply, youth #2 punched him. Officer brought both youths to PSD. The mother of the former and father of the latter responded and youth #2 apologized. Problem was solved. Domestic Dispute 5/23, apt., 625 Main St. Female in-house, reported having a dispute with husband, and asked to have him escorted out of the apartment. Officer advised her that officer could not comply. The husband’s name was on the lease. Complainant requested NYPD, they responded, prepared a Domestic Complaint Report and she was referred to Family Court. 5/27, apt., 540 Main St. Female in-house, reported brother was engaged in physical dispute with mother. Officers responded, saw graffiti and various holes in walls. NYPD, EMS were called, responded. Victim refused EMS. Perp was allowed to pack personal belongings and was escorted out of apartment. RIHM super was notified of the apartment’s condition. Elevator Malfunction 5/18, elevator #2, 540 Main St. Elevator #2 was malfunctioning, stopping on seventh floor and lobby, signaling the intercom system. There were residents on board, who left without stating their names. Officer notified RIHM, maintenance put elevator out of service. Hazardous Condition 5/25, sidewalk near 20, 40 River Rd. Officers responded
to scene with RIOC Engineer relating to DEP’s response for water bubbling
out of Z-bricks. DEP Inspector had loose joints condition corrected, and
the area at both ends of Manhattan Park at the southbound lane was loosely
black-topped. Repairs to be made on Saturday, May 29. 5/26, sidewalk front of 559 Main St. Female in-house reported there was a 2 x 45 inch piece missing from the metal grating on the sidewalk in front of Montauk Credit Union. Investigation 5/17, Blackwell Park, 500 Main St. Female resident in-house, reported three males recklessly riding mopeds on East Seawall. Officer responded, informed the individuals the mopeds they were riding were not street legal, that they could be summonsed, and have the mopeds confiscated. Multiple complaints were received by PSD, but none after officer admonished the young men. 5/27, sandbox adj. 40 River Rd. Female resident phoned PSD to report a male sitting on bench adjacent to children’s play area. Officers responded, searched for anonymous male, saw him at the West Seawall, advised him the play area was reserved. He apologized. Approximately one hour later, the officers checked the area a second time and the male had not returned. 5/30, Motorgate, 4-B, 688 Main or Bronx Zoo Male in-house, stated that while at Bronx Zoo he noticed that his vehicle’s passenger side door lock was missing. He further stated that it must have occurred while it was parked at Motorgate and that there was nothing missing. Missing 5/28, west seawall, 10 River Rd. Female in-house, reported having seen an unattended underage girl at scene. Officer responded, found the three-year-old in custody of another female. Officer ascertained from girl she had been looking for babysitter. Officers began to escort her to her residence. Upon arrival her father and babysitter were waiting. The latter reported she had been watching the little girl and her two sisters, when the former wandered away; and she had immediately notified the concierge and the father. The youth appeared in good health and medical assistance was not requested. 5/30, Lighthouse Park, 900 Main St. Found. Female phoned, stated she had not seen her underage daughter since noon, she surrendered a photo of the child. The usual notifications were made by PSD. Officers searched the Island. Off duty officer notified a Sergeant that the child was at the park; officers responded. Child was at neighbor’s BBQ and was escorted to PSD to be reunited with her mother, who refused NYPD/EMS. Missing Property 5/18, apt., 2 River Rd. Female in-house, said complete contents of two suitcases were missing (summer clothes with an approximate value of US$2,500.) The victim is a repetitive complainant. No other action was taken by PSD. Property Damage 5/22, post #21, 400 Main St. Officer observed broken window at the booth, and that bark had fallen off the tree, perhaps causing the damage. RIOC maintenance report filled out. 5/27, lobby, 595 Main St. RIHM employee in-house to report cracked lobby window and stated he had noticed that earlier moving company employees had rested boxes against the window. The VCR tape was checked and did not show anything. NYPD was refused. Traffic Law Summonses 5/19, street, 645 Main St. Officer observed male driving motorbike without license plates; pulled driver over and requested supervisor at scene. Male stated the last registered driver had turned in the plates, and had given him the vehicle. He was driving same to a relative’s apartment on the Island for storage. The 114th Pct. was contacted and the vehicle had not been stolen. Officer issued young man two summonses, and released him. Unsecured Premises 5/27, gate/shed adj. pool, 40 River Rd. Sergeant on patrol found unsecured areas, small gate was missing lock, shed had broken hinge. Manhattan Park super was notified. Unsecured Vehicle 5/20, Motorgate, 5-B, 688 Main St. While on patrol officers observed a vehicle with driver’s side front window open, as well as sealed boxes of cookware, picture frames, etc. They were undisturbed. Sergeant responded, contacted 114th Pct., was informed owner’s name, address. Sergeant spoke with concierge at 30 River Rd., who stated car’s owner was no longer a resident at that address. Officers were unable to secure vehicle. 5/30, Motorgate, 5-C, 688 Main St. While on patrol officer noticed two vehicles with open windows. There were no signs of forced entry. |
