October 1-17

Burglary

10/4, apt., 560 Main Street.  Sgt. responded to scene, female informed him on 10/2 she thinks she may have left apt. keys in apt's lock, which were visible from hallway.  She notified RIHM on 10/3, an order was prepared for change of lock on 10/4.  Victim returned on 10/3 in the evening,  and noticed her son's bicycle was on the stairs.  On 10/4 at 0700 hours the bicycle was missing.  No other property reported missing.

Criminal Mischief

10/6, lobby, 580 Main Street.  Officer responded to mailbox area.  Male stated his apartment's mailbox had been tampered with.  Officer saw scratches on mailbox and it was not aligned.  There was no mail in box and it could not be determined  if there had been mail in the mailbox.  A message for U.S. Postal Inspectors will be left by Sgt. Yee.

10/12, hallway, 625 Main Street.  Officer observed a cracked window in hallway in the 9th floor.  RIHM super and concierge were notified.

10/13, Motorgate, 688 Main Street.  Sgt. responded to report of damaged vehicle and victim said she'd parked car on 10/7; and a friend had called her on 10/12 to advise her that car had been scratched and had a flat tire.  Owner stated she had moved car to another area on 8th floor.  Sgt. confirmed damage to car.  Victim stated she would contact 114th Pct.

Disorderly Conduct

10/17, street, 619 Main Street, Arrest.  Officers responded to scene for report of dispute and saw three people engaged in a loud dispute with a male and female each holding a piece of steering wheel lock.  All three were arrested, escorted to PSD.  A resident witness stated that the two women were standing with a baby carriage while a vehicle was backing up.  The car never struck them.  The women surrounded the man screaming at him.  They went to their car and returned with a steering wheel lock and tried to strike the man with it.  The man then grabbed a piece of the lock.  Officers arrived at that time.  The three were each issued a "C" summons and released.  No one was injured.

Harassment

10/9, apt., 540 Main Street, Arrest.  Female resident in-house, stated male had pushed her and she hit her back against a table at location.  EMS, NYPD responded, EMS examined victim, transport was refused.  NYPD prepared domestic incident report, PSD issued perp. a "C" summons.  Female removed her belongings from apt. and left.

10/10, apt., 4 River Rd., Aggravated.  Resident female in-house, reported she has had problems with female, whose name she knows, but no address, who has been calling her on cellular phone, making threats against her life.  Victim had filed complaint at 114th Pct. in June 2001.  NYPD responded, prepared a report.

10/11, apt., 580 Main Street.  Female phoned PSD, reported male youth was banging on door, saying her 15-year-old son owes him money.  Victim stated she would call NYPD.

10/11, apt., 560 Main Street.  Female in-house, stated that approx. on 9/9 she had paid a male some money to do work in her apt. and the repairs  still had not been done.  She had called the man demanding a refund and he retaliated by threatening her with bodily harm.

10/14, US Post Office, 694 Main Street, Aggravated.  Female resident in-house, stated she'd received three birthday cards at the R.I. Post Office on 10/12 from unknown person.  She requested NYPD, they responded, prepared report and informed victim  matter would be investigated.

10/14, apt., 560 Main Street.  Officer responded to apt.  Female complainant stated four youths had called her names and threatened her with bodily harm to a certain part of her anatomy.  Victim could not identify youths.  Officer advised her to obtain description of clothing and any other pertinent information that could be helpful if incident occurs again.  NYPD was refused.

10/17, sidewalk, 400 Main Street, Off-Island.  Youth phoned PSD, said that he and a friend had entered subway and another youth approached them brandishing  what appeared to be a knife, victim told him to put the knife away, the perp. complied. Then a train approached, which the perp. boarded.  Victim's friend saw a large number of youths approaching them and they fled to witness's apt.  His mother requested PSD, two Sgts. and Youth Officer responded.  The victim, witness, his mother, and officers went to subway station.  Youths were en route to school in Manhattan.

Larceny

10/3, Laundry rm., 575 Main Street.  Female phoned PSD, stated she had placed her laundry in the dryer, upon her return she discovered laundry (valued at approximately $300, was missing.  NYPD report was refused.

10/12, Motorgate, 688 Main Street.  Female in-house said unknown person had removed cellular phone from her vehicle.  Sgt. responded and reported there were no signs of forced entry. NYPD responded, prepared report.  Victim stated there is no license plate on vehicle, because it previously had been stolen.

Fire

10/5, M&D Deli, 579 Main Street.  PSD central informed officer on patrol to respond to scene of MandD Deli, upon arrival he noticed smoke emanating from side door.  D.O. called FDNY, and all PSD officers responded to location.  Fire Chief Duffy confirmed that condition was caused by electrical short circuit in conveyor belts motor.  FDNY gained entry – they broke front gate, etc., as well as side door.  Fire was put under control.  There were no injuries; store owner responded, interviewed by Fire Marshal.  Officer was posted in front of store due to unsecured doors.

Dispute

10/4, Front of PS 217, 645 Main Street, Domestic.  Officer responded to scene of dispute, observed a male and female engaged in an argument over the care and welfare of their mutual daughter.  Another officer convinced the female to resume the dispute at another location, male grabbed her backpack, and reporting officer subdued him. The female had the opportunity to leave the scene.  Perp. left the island.

10/7, street, 561 Main Street, Verbal.  While on patrol, officer heard and observed two males arguing.  The perp is romantically involved with victim's stepdaughter and is no longer welcome at latter's apt.  NYPD responded and prepared report.  Victim requested order of protection.

Found Property

10/14, sidewalk, 532 Main Street.  Female pizzeria employee in-house, gave to Duty Officer a wallet, whose owner is a female, which contained no currency, NYS driver's lic., Amex card and other credit cards, other misc. documents.  Wallet was secured at PSD. Officer was able to leave message on owner's phone.

10/14, east seawall, 560 Main Street.  Anonymous male in-house, with detachable radio "face" plate for a cassette/radio that could not be identified.  Property secured at PSD.  Subsequently male resident in-house, he described property, stated location where he had left same, and signed the log book for same.

Graffiti

10/14, stairwell, 510 Main Street, Officer observed graffiti at scene.

Hazardous Condition

10/16, 13th floor hall, 560 Main Street.  Officer responded to scene for report of broken glass, confirmed condition: there was a broken mirror on floor.  Officer checked hallway, stairwell and AVAC with negative results.  RIHM porter cleaned up glass and took photo of area.

Investigation

10/5, stairs, 12th floor, 575 Main Street.  RIHM super reported to PSD he had seen a youth sleeping in the stairwell, who stated his father, who is a diplomat, had asked him to leave the apt.  Youth said he was waiting for a friend; he was escorted to PSD.  Father advised to pick up his son and advised of results of abandonment.  U.N. Security was also advised of matter.  Father subsequently arrived at PSD to pick up son.

10/8, Post #1 area, 688 Main Street.  Sgt. was made aware of a threatening note left at Post 1 area, which had been discovered by two officers.  Note implied that a Goldwater patient may have knowledge of potential hostile acts directed at unspecified Manhattan locations.  Sgt. notified and faxed the note to 114th Pct. Community Affairs officer to be referred to Intelligence Division. Dir. Fry, Lt. Suarez notified.  Subsequently a Sgt. from NYPD Intelligence Division called the sergeant inquiring about the hospital and the patient.  Detective will contact GW Hospital Police for additional information.

10/9, hallway, 546 Main Street.  Female in-house, stated her two underage daughters were selling candy for school, when a youth approached them, snatched envelope containing $50 from younger youth's hand and fled.  A female youth, friend of victims, pursued the male youth and retrieved the envelope.  Victims returned to their apt.  When mother, who was not at scene when incident occurred, counted the money in envelope there was $14 missing.  NYPD was refused.  Matter being investigated.

10/11, apt., 575 Main Street.  Female in-house, said unknown male called, stated her name, address and phone number.  She also said approx. 2 weeks ago her wallet was stolen. The caller had made remarks that made no sense.  However, no sexual or threatening comments.  Reporter to call Verizon Telephone Annoyance Unit.  She will also have locks to apt. changed.  NYPD refused.

10/11, Motorgate, 688 Main Street.  Male resident in- house, reported unknown person entered his car, left misc. trash, but did not damage vehicle.  Sgt. responded to Motorgate, inspected vehicle, which did not have any damage.  Victim refused NYPD.  Victim said the same incident had occurred on 8/23 and 24, but he had not reported them.

10/11, apt./Motorgate, 560/688 Main, Investigation / Missing Property.  Female phoned PSD, said that on 10/6, she had given a part-time RIHM employee keys to apt. /car keys /mailbox.  He picked up her car, drove her to doctor's office.  Later he returned to her apt., saying he'd misplaced the keys, entering the apt. through unsecured window. On 10/7, victim noticed $400 and some clothing missing, totaling $1,175 in value.  On 10/9 keys were given to a Sgt. at PSD, five minutes later the RIHM employee retrieved them, later on victim's granddaughter asked mailman if he had seen keys, he said he'd given them to a maintenance worker.  The former returned to PSD and was told the RIHM employee had keys.  On 10/11 victim went to Motorgate, discovered car had been moved to 4th floor and had scratches on it.

10/15, front door, 576 Main Street.  Resident phoned PSD, stated that upon opening the door to his apt. he discovered what appeared to be, and had the odor of, feces on the apt's. front door and entry door leading to his residence.  (It could not be determined if it was human or animal feces.)  Officer at scene and advised victim go to PSD to request feces  be cleaned up immediately.  Resident called NYPD on his own.  RIHM was called, and operator dispatched a porter to clean the area in question.

10/17, Credit Union, 559 Main Street.  Grand Larceny.  V.P. of Operations of Montauk Credit Union requested PSD's presence at their location, relating to large amount of funds missing from the safe.  Sgt. responded, spoke with the afore-mentioned officer, as well as CPA Auditor for the Union.  The latter stated he had completed a "surprise" audit of Credit Union's safe and upon completion had discovered US$21,077.00 missing and unaccounted for from the branch's reserve.  The auditor advised the branch's coordinator, who has been making  daily reports that safe total was accurate and all funds accounted for.  The branch's coordinator informed the auditor that those funds had been missing since May 2001, since former employee left the Credit Union.  The auditor then requested NYPD, and the branch's coordinator was transported to 114th Pct. so detectives could interview  her.

Lock-out

10/12, Apt., 510 Main Street.  Daughter of resident in- house, stated latter had been robbed of her purse in Manhattan on unknown date, and it had contained her apt.'s keys.  The victim had suffered a broken wrist and had not been able to check on her apt. or notify PSD.  The reporter identified herself as victim's family, was given access to apt., officer and she entered and everything seemed to be in order.

Missing/found Youth

10/4/01, street, 684 Main Street.  Female resident phoned PSD to report her 9-year old son missing, and was seen with another underage youth.  Officer contacted school and  was informed that the 1st youth had not gone to school that day.  Officer also checked the 2nd youth's residence and was informed by concierge that he too had been reported missing,  but that both youth were well.  Female retrieved her son.  The boy said that his bicycle had been stolen the day before and they were looking for it.  The other youth was turned over to the Dean at PS 217, his parents were not home.

Property Damage

10/13, lobby, 4 River Rd.  Officers responded to scene for possible fight in progress.  Did not see any one in area; however, did observe that there were no personnel in security booth and that its window was damaged.

Suspicious Letter

10/17, mailbox, 531 Main Street.  Female in-house, said she'd received a letter from HIP, Florida, and she showed officer all the other letters she received from HIP which emanate from 34th Street not Florida.  The letter had a 2nd postmark from upstate NY.  Female was afraid to open letter.  NYPD was requested, responded and officer opened letter.  There was nothing wrong.

Unsecured Premises

10/12, Motorgate, 688 Main Street.  While Sgt. was on patrol, he saw that a car's passenger's side window had been left open.  There was no damage to outside/inside.  Motorgate office was notified.

Truancy

10/12, school, 645 Main Street.  School Dean phoned PSD, reported two youths had cut school and stated their parents had been notified.  School security had searched with negative results.  PSD officers responded to respective youths' apts. with negative results.  Youth Officer was notified.

Unsecured Premises

10/11, bank, 619 Main Street.  Female at bank informed PSD officer that after having cleaned bank and was leaving, she could not secure front door.  Supervisor was called and responded and secured door.

Vehicle Accident

10/4, 36 Ave. Bridge, Off-Island.  While at Post One, officer observed truck parked on bridge with hazard lights on, and responded, driver #1 said his truck had been struck by another truck; requested EMS, NYPD, both responded,  driver #1 was transported to Mt. Sinai.  NYPD parked his truck on Queens side, same had been damaged, and would have to be towed up. Driver of vehicle #2 refused EMS and his truck had no damage.

10/12, street, 694 Main Street.  Driver of vehicle #1 was parked in front of 699 Main waiting for a parking space.  Driver of vehicle #2, who was un-licensed, put car in reverse, striking car #1, smashed front fender, pulled off right side of  fender.  Owner of #2 was summonsed for allowing an un-licensed person to drive car, and driver was issued a summons for driving without a license.

Water Leak

10/9, apt., 575 Main Street.  Bldg. concierge phoned PSD, reported water leak.  Officer responded, upon arrival was met by RIHM Supervisor and Super. Tenant's sink had overflowed, causing water to spill to floor.  Sink was unclogged, water cleaned up.  There was no property damage.

10/15, apt., 555 Main Street.  Officer responded to apt. for report of water leak, where he saw large water stain in front of apt.  RIHM supervisor and two handymen were at scene, they entered apt., verified water leak emanating from under kitchen sink.  Condition was corrected, apt. secured.  Tenant was not at home.


 

October 18-31, 2001

Criminal Mischief

10/21/1, laundries, 556/540 Main St.  Officer observed holes in wall in two laundry rooms, contacted operator, RIHM maintenance employee fixed the holes.

10/21/1, Motorgate, 688 Main St.  Male resident in- house, stated he parked his car on 10/18, when he returned he noticed two hubcaps were missing from right side of vehicle and trunk was bent from the side.  Officer confirmed the afore- mentioned.  Victim refused NYPD.

10/25/1, rear Eastwood sch., 566 Main St.  Officer observed a broken window at scene, searched area for perp with negative results.  Officer notified RIOC maintenance supervisor, and window repaired.

10/25/1, street, opposite 688 Main St.  Female resident in-house, informed officer of a broken car window at scene.  Officer dispatched, confirmed right side passenger side window broken.  No property appeared to be missing.  He searched area for perp with negative results.

Harassment

10/23/1, courtyard, 4 River Road.  Female resident in- house, said another female resident has been verbally abusive towards her for three years, and that she has not done anything to provoke the perp.  Victim will notify NYPD.

10/31/1, apt., 4 River Road.  Sgt. and officers responded to scene for report of male resident banging on apt. door and shouting.  He was gone upon their arrival.  Male had been threatening the female resident, who refused medical attention.  NYPD prepared report.

Larceny

10/28/1, Racquet Club, 281 Main St.  Officer responded to scene, spoke with Manager , who stated he thought one of his staff members had taken $700.00 from a wallet belonging to another staff member.  Manager requested officer assist him in searching the staff members, officer declined.  Manager then said he did not require officer's assistance and that he would contact 114th Pct. himself.  Officer, however, did search the racquet club area.

Fire

10/21/1, apt., 10 River Road.  Sgt. and officer responded to apt., and saw smoke in hallway.  Tenant said she'd burned food that was in oven.  FDNY responded, extinguished fire.  Windows were opened, EMS was refused.

Faulty Alarm

10/24/1, apt., 2 River Road.  Sgt. and officers responded to a call from Man Park maintenance man, for alarm sounding and possible DOA.  The latter had opened door, large wooden board was blocking door, but they gained entry. Resident was in good health but is deaf.  Chain was repaired.

Criminal Possession Stolen Property / Escape

10/21/1, apt., 30 River Road. Arrest.  Concierge reported two perps. running south on west seawall in possession of stolen laptop. Officer saw two males s/o 501 Main St. All officers responded, Sgt. observed perp #2 drop plastic bag in bushes with a camera and shirt.  Sgt. and officers searched area, found CD player.  Victim was escorted to scene, where he identified his possessions.  Two perps were arrested, escorted to PSD.  Upon searching them, officer found victim's Amex card, 4 T/C's value of $200 perp #2's wallet.  Witness stated he had seen both perps with laptop, but it was not recovered until later.  Perp #1 attempted to escape while at PSD, but was subdued.  Both perps were transported to 114th Pct. and ultimately to Central Booking in Manhattan.  Both perps were interviewed by ADA.  They had taken the items while assembling furniture victim had purchased from Ikea.

Dispute

10/18/1, card shop, 563 Main St.  Sgt. and officer responded to card shop, spoke with youth's father who said that owner of store had hit his son on the hand for playing with the candy, which the owner denied.  The latter stated he had just asked youth not to play with the candy if he was not going to purchase it.  Officer asked youth if he was injured and he said he was not.  Youth's father asked the owner to call him at home if other incidents were to occur.

10/30/1, street, 560 Main St.  Female perp was yelling at another female.  Officer responded, victim stated her aunt had been threatening her with physical harm and that it has happened before.  NYPD responded, prepared report.  Officer did not see perp at scene.

Found Property

10/24/1, sidewalk, 549 Main St.  Female in-house turned over a card key and identification of a non-resident male.  Officer contacted his supervisor, owner will retrieve his property in the evening.  Property secured at PSD.

10/29/1, sidewalk, 556 Main St.  RIHM employee and supervisor in-house, turned in a wallet containing one credit and misc. medical and other cards, 4 cents in U.S.  currency.  Officer contacted concierge at one of the island buildings.  Subsequently female resident claimed the wallet, stating all credit cards were in the wallet, however, $1,200 in U.S. currency was missing.

Graffiti

10/21/1, stairwells, 546 Main St.  Officer saw graffiti at J-4, M-4 cable box.

Hazardous Condition

10/19/1, sidew., 543 Main St.  Unk male in-house, stated there was a hole in the street.  Officer responded and observed a large hole.  Area was cordoned off, message for RIOC grounds was left.

Investigation

10/19/01, flower pot, 543 Main St.  Underage youth in- house, stated another boy pushed his face into flower pot, which caused a knot on right side of his face. Both parents were notified that matter would be looked into by Y.O.

10/22/1, apt., 510 Main St.  Follow-up.  Resident female in-house said she'd spoken to a  male non-resident, who said he'd written harassing letters to her. Previous IR written as letters coming from unk. sources.  Woman said she has know male for 20 years.  Victim now refuses to press charges and will notify NYPD herself.

10/22/1, street/west seawall, 543 Main St.  Youth in- house said he was playing soccer with group of older youths and older youth kept pushing until reaching wsw, when victim fell down the stairs.  When he got up another youth pushed his head through open guard railing.  Perps ran when they heard victim's grandmother calling him.  Victim sustained small scratch on his left elbow.  Grandmother will notify PS 217 and NYPD on her own.

10/23/1, apt., 510 Main St.  Youth in-house said he'd gone to female resident's apt. (known to PSD), but she was not there.  He informed officer his mother's name (she lives on Long Island), who stated she would retrieve her child.  Victim arrived home and said she  had advised the child she was taking her cat to the hospital and that he should go to the Youth Center after school.  Mother arrived at PSD, and was told he had been taken to victim's apt.

10/27/1, subway station, 400 Main St., Off-Island.  Sgt. and officers responded to Roosevelt Island Queens-bound subway station due to numerous NYPD officers and EMS at scene.  NYPD officer advised them they had arrested two males who were fighting on the train for disorderly conduct.

Missing Property

10/31/1, front of apartment, 4th floor hall, 540 Main.  Female resident in-house, relating to a lock out.  Upon returning to scene, she said that two bags left in f/o apt., containing approx. $80.00 and misc. clothing were gone.  Officer searched area with negative results.  NYPD was refused by victim.

Property Damage

10/31/1, water tunnel #3, 801 Main.  Sgt. found fence at water tunnel #3 partially down.  Security Protection Services's security guard was at scene.  RIOC's top officials at scene.  DEP Resident Engineer was notified, responded and stated he was aware of the damage.  Condition was corrected by RIOC's grounds supervisor and grounds personnel.

Recovered Evidence

10/21/1, adjacent 400 Main St.  Sgt. and officers were conducting additional search for laptop along west seawall, where perps were arrested earlier for criminal possession of stolen property.  They noticed the missing laptop in the bushes and recovered same.  A message for ADA was left on her voice mail.  Item was secured at PSD.
