In the Wake of the September 11th Tragedy,
The Roosevelt Island Community Responds

Students in Mrs. Winik's class discussed
their feelings about the tragedy.Residents of all ages continued to express themselves this week, some turning to poetry and some to art.  Children in Ms.Winik's fourth-grade class at PS217 hugged bears sent to them by kids in Oklahoma City, then wrote letters of appreciation.  Members of the Roosevelt Island Visual Art Association began preparing a tribute to the heroes of the Twin Towers which will appear in a Main Street window starting Tuesday (October 9).  People came all the way from Daytona Beach, Florida, with gifts.  And this community mourned its losses in harmony with those who were closest and felt them most...
