January 1-15, 2001

Burglary

1/10, 546 Main St., Residents in-house, male said he was in bathroom, his wife had left to buy milk. When he exited bathroom, he discovered his and wife's property missing. US$50, man's watch valued at $100, two U.S. passports, Chase card and other miscellaneous items. NYPD responded, there were no signs of forced entry. Female said she had left door open. RIHM was requested to change lock. Victim was advised to contact bank to cancel bank card.

Criminal mischief

1/3, 556 Main St., Female in-house, reported that unknown individuals repeatedly tamper with apartment's door locks. She said she had returned home to find her door open, however, she did not allow officers to check her apartment, and refused NYPD. Woman also said top lock to apartment had been removed several weeks ago.

1/3, 555 Main St., Resident informed officer that while washing clothes at basement laundry, she saw several snow balls hit rear glass door, shattering same. RIHM super taped up door. No injuries incurred.

1/10, 541 Main St., Officer responded to laundry at scene. Resident informed him youth had thrown rock through window, shattering same. Maintenance worker temporarily repaired window. NYPD responded. Officer searched area with negative results.

1/15, 580 Main St., Officer responded to 10th floor, inner glass window was shattered. Officer checked S, T, U at 4 level. No one in area. RIHM service worker cleaned up glass. Window to be boarded up.

Trespass

1/2, 546 Main St., Arrest, Officer responded to scene of person sleeping by stairwell. Youth was escorted to PSD, issued a C summons. Youth Officer made arrangements with group home where youth resides to have him picked up, which they did.

1/8, 580 Main St., Arrest, Officers saw resident male in front of elevator at 4th floor. He was warned and admonished to stay out, officers continued patrolling, upon returning perp was still there, he proceeded to walk back in hallway, then he stopped by window. They placed him under arrest, issued him a C summons and released him.

1/15, lobby, 540 Main St., 2 Arrests, Officer noticed 2 men emptying cigar in front of rear lobby, walk south on east seawall, enter 540 rear lobby. He saw perp #1 roll brown paper cigar with what appeared to be marijuana. Other officers responded. Both perps are not residents of 540. A cigar leaf with marijuana inside was found in front of perp #1. Both were arrested, issued C summonses, perp #1 for trespass and possession of marijuana, perp #2 for trespass, and released them.

Harassment

1/4, 4 River Rd., Resident in-house, said female resident harassed her 16-year-old daughter (it is on-going) emanating from noise complaint about which PSD and Manhattan Park have been advised. Youth was not injured. NYPD responded, prepared report, referred to mediation court.

1/5, 645 Main St., Female radioed PSD, said 2 underage youths were throwing snow balls, which struck her on her back. Youths were escorted to PSD, Youth Officer spoke to them. Parents responded, youths apologized. Victim did not incur any injuries.

Larceny

1/5, 625 Main St., Female tenant in-house said, while she was being moved from 1 apartment to another (phone, cable company personnel in apartment) an organizer (value $270), was discovered missing. Complainant will report it at 114 Pct.

1/13, hall, 580 Main St., Officers responded to scene, RIHM service worker stated he had seen a cable wire hanging from ceiling, and camera which had been installed at scene was missing. Camera's value unknown.

Other

Alarm

1/7, 645 Main St., Officer responded to PS 217 for alarm sounding. Upon arrival, officer noticed fire strobe lights flashing, but no fire at scene. He checked exterior of premises, all appeared in order, contacted Board of Education personnel who said someone would respond. School security officer had called PSD before to report alarm.

Assist of FDNY

1/14, 540 Main St., Officer noticed FDNY at scene for report of possible smoke condition. Upon officer's arrival he did not notice smell of smoke, searched area with negative results.

Assist of NYPD

1/9, 400 Main St., Off-Island, Officers responded to report of dispute in subway station. Spoke to NYPD officer who had a call of dispute with a pipe, which was unfounded, it was only verbal dispute. It was between elderly man and another male. Both boarded subway and left.

Dispute

1/3, 4 River Rd., Officers responded to apartment, female said she and husband were having dispute and he was using foul language and threatening her. Officers spoke with them, male agreed to leave the apartment. NYPD was requested.

Found property

1/3, 300 Main St., Anonymous male in-house surrendered wallet he had found at Tram with misc. ID cards, B's credit card, US$1.00. Officer contacted high school that owner attends. Wallet secured at PSD.

Graffiti

1/9, 560 Main St., Officer observed graffiti at scene – elevator. 1/11, 595 Main St., Officer saw graffiti at scene 6E, 4E and L- E.

Investigation

1/1, Perth Amboy, N.J., Off-Island, Male in-house, stated he had not seen his wife, resident of Perth Amboy, since 12/29. The latter has friend on Roosevelt Island. PSD officer and reporter responded to apartment, no one answered door. NYPD was refused.

1/2, 510 Main St., Officer responded to apartment to investigate noise complaint, i.e., banging on ceiling late at night/ early morning, emanating from neighbor's apartment. Officer went to latter's apartment, spoke with tenant who claimed he was not making noise but would cooperate. Complainant advised to call PSD when noise occurs and to file grievance with RIHM.

1/8, 556 Main St., Officer responded to Deputy office, resident female at scene who stated unknown persons have repeatedly tampered with her door locks and mailbox. She had one lock replaced at her expense.

1/9, 560 Main St., Officers responded to scene with RIHM Manager to remove male from apartment at grandmother's request. Perp's name had been taken off lease in April 1998. He was escorted out of apartment and building without incident.

1/10, patio, 580 Main St., Officer responded to scene for bottles thrown into patio. Officer observed broken bottles on ground. Victim stated she had found them at 7:30 a.m. Officer checked area above victim's apartment, found no windows above victim's apartment. Patio is opposite east seawall, where congregating occurs. Photos taken.

1/2, 595 Main St., Officer responded to scene for report of unknown person smoking controlled substance, spoke to tenant complaining about person smoking at scene every night, smoke seeps into her apartment Officer searched area with negative results. Resident was asked to call PSD when it occurs in future.

Lost Property

1/8, 546 Main St., Officer found a yellow-colored earring (14K, value and owner unknown) while patrolling, searched area with negative results. Same secured at PSD.

1/8, 552 Main St., Officer found a Chase bank card at PSD office, same was secured.

1/10, Gristede's, 686 Main St., Female resident told officer she purchased several items at Gristede's on 1/9, when she went to pay, she noticed her wallet was missing from her purse. Missing were: US$35, Visa card, driver's license and other misc. items; 911 was notified, NYPD responded.

Missing Property

1/5, 686 Main St., Female in-house, said she had inadvertently left her purse (contents: US$60, credit cards, passport, etc.) in shopping cart. When she returned and inquired no one had seen the purse. NYPD was refused.

Property Damage

1/3, 605 Main St., Resident informed officer he had parked his car at location, when he returned, a chunk of ice had dropped and shattered right rear window, but he refused NYPD. No injuries incurred. Officer checked area, did not find ice build up on building.

Reckless Driving

1/6, 400 Main St., Arrest, Officer reported to central that jeep was stuck on sidewalk by west seawall. Other officers responded, owner contacted, who said he was trying out his new jeep. FDNY, NYPD responded, driver did not incur injuries. Driver was issued 2 traffic summonses.

Serving of Court Papers

1/12, 4 River Rd., Officer responded to apartment to serve court papers to husband for him to go to Family court. Papers served without incident. Husband escorted out of building.

Unsecured Premises

1/2, RIHM, 552 Main St., Officers responded to service office, which was unsecured. They examined door and lock did not show signs of forced entry. Officers searched interior, saw no non- authorized personnel. Super and handyman returned to scene. Employees had left door unlocked when responding to a call.

1/7, 591 Main St., Facilities supervisor phoned PSD, said door was unsecured, she set the alarm, locked door. Officers conducted search of premises, all was in order. PSD will follow up on 1/8.

1/14, 510 Main St., Officers responded to scene of unknown youths entering unlocked basement access. Upon arrival officer found door unlocked. They searched entire basement with negative results. Door was secured.

Vehicle Accident

1/8, 549 Main St., Non-resident male told officer that while he was picking up a passenger (he was double-parked) RIOC bus #8 was trying to pass (van started to move), bus struck driver's side mirror and shattered it. NYPD, EMS refused.

1/13, ramp, 2/4 River Rd., Officer saw 2 vehicles on ramp, car #1 headed down ramp, car #2 going up ramp, both sustained damage. No injuries incurred, NYPD responded, drivers interviewed, both drivers left scene.

Water Leak

1/9, 555 Main St., RIHM super requested officer to enter apartment due to water leak. They entered apartment with plumber to repair leak. Tenant returned to apartment while they were there. No damage incurred, maintenance to return next day to repair wall.
