Frank Cherry Frank Cherry, longtime Island resident and endurance sport enthusiast, has been named Editor of Out of the Loop, the monthly newsletter of The Empire Skate Club of New York, the largest inline skating club in the United States.

Empire Skate organizes over 200 skating events and activities throughout the year including technique workshops for all skaters and racers, group skates in and around the City, fund-raising events for charities, and social exercise occasions. Empire Speed, a division of the club, has over 100 members who race, including several elite racers with national reputations.

Most Empire Skate Club events are staged in Central Park - some six weekly events in the April to October period. Other events are scheduled for Prospect Park, a calmer environment.

Even in the winter the Empire skaters keep stroking and rolling: the Tuesday Night Skate, New York's longest running group skate, heads out so long as the streets are dry; there are indoor sessions on a hard wood floor three times a week, and members join together for skate cruises to the Caribbean, for snow-skating and skiing outings to Hunter Mountain, and for ice skating and skiing trips to Lake Placid, to name a few of the winter activities.

The club plans a mini-workshop on Roosevelt Island, given by one of our expert instructors, in conjunction with a day-skate roll across the Island into Queens.

The club operates a website, www.empireskate.org. Cherry can be contacted via email at fcherry@msn.com for additional information on the club and its activities.
