RIRA Common Council Gets
Class of Ten New Voting Members

The November 7 Residents Association election drew more than a dozen first-time or returning one-time-member candidates, with ten being elected to voting positions tally).  Two building-districts didn't field enough candidates to fill their Council seats – Manhattan Park (four openings) and 4 River Road (one).  These open seats can be filled with volunteers by vote of the Common Council.

Voting by machine in the RIRA election.

The next RIRA Common Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, at 8:00 p.m. in Chapel of the Good Shepherd.

Under the RIRA constitution, building candidates not elected to voting positions serve as alternates and are entitled to participate in Council discussions and debate.  When voting councilors from their building-districts are absent from a Common Council meeting, the alternates step into the voting positions in the order of votes received in the election.  (See tally.)

Both councilors and alternates are subject to a rule under which absence from three consecutive meetings brings removal from their position.  Under the present constitution, members who move from one building-district to another also lose their seats.

Frank Farance, who manages the Common Council e-mail reflector, has asked that new members provide him with their e-mail addresses, home and work phone numbers, home and work fax numbers, and home address, by e-mail to frank@farance.com or by telephone (486-4700).
