Candidates for RIRA Presidency and
First Vice Presidency to Debate

Roosevelt Island's version of Presidential and Vice Presidential debates will happen Wednesday night at 8:00 at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd.

Five candidates - Patrick Stewart (incumbent) and Matthew Katz for President, and Joan Christianson (incumbent), Byron Gaspard, and Walter Hill for First Vice President are scheduled to make opening statements, then answer written questions submitted by the audience.

The whole affair is scheduled to last 90 minutes, with a moderator directing questions alternately to the candidates for President, who will get about two-thirds of the questions, while Vice Presidential hopefuls will get a third. Answers are to run a minute and a half, and rebuttal answers one minute.

A week later, on November 1, candidates for the Common Council will participate in RIRA's traditional (and constitutionally-required) Candidates Night, making brief presentations in their quest for the 33 Common Council seats.

Rules have been worked out between the candidates: Two-minute opening statements, three-minute closing statements, no audience participation or applause. At press time, there was still a question of whether there would be one moderator (RIRA Election Chair, Seymour Williams, has been agreed upon) or two.
