Memo sent to RIRA
Nominations and Election Committees
October 8, 2000
To assist in the RIRA election, The WIRE offers to
run Candidate Statements as follows:
President
- One essay or position paper of up to about 775 words in
the October 21 issue. Deadline 5:00 p.m. Sunday 10/15.
- One essay or position paper of up to about 775 words in the
November 4 issue. Deadline 5:00 p.m. Sunday 10/29.
- One flyer, 8.5 x 11 sheet, printed one or both sides, as an
Island-wide stuffer with the 11/4 issue; these must be printed by
the candidates and provided by 5:00 p.m. Thursday 11/2, delivered
to the Rivercross doorstation marked "for
The WIRE."
First Vice President
- One essay or position paper of up to about 350 words in
the 10/21 issue. Deadline 5:00 p.m. Sunday 10/15. [This
deadline was later extended to 5:00 p.m. Monday 10/16.]
- One essay or position paper of up to about 350 words in the
11/4 issue. Deadline 5:00 p.m. Sunday 10/29.
- One flyer, 8.5 x 11 sheet, printed one or both sides, as an
Island-wide stuffer with the 11/4 issue; these must be printed by
the candidates and provided by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, 11/2,
delivered to the Rivercross doorstation marked "For
The WIRE."
- The statements must be delivered in machine-readable form,
meaning by e-mail or on 3.5" PC-compatible disk. For convenience
of publication, President & VP statements may not be combined if
pairs are running as a slate.
Common Council candidates
- One flyer, 8.5 x 11 sheet, printed one or both sides, to
be distributed in their "election district" buildings with 11/4
issue. Same terms as flyer described above for President/Vice
President.
Again, these are to be for the candidacy of the Common Council
candidate her/himself, not on behalf of other candidates. Any
Common Council candidate on whom the printing of such a statement
would work a financial hardship may apply for very limited
subsidy support from The WIRE.
For these flyers, I will provide counts (that is, the number
of copies needed) closer to the time. For distribution reasons,
it will be necessary to print about 10% more than the actual
building count, in each case.
