Public Safety's performance was a topic shared by several
residents who spoke Thursday night at RIOC's Board of Directors
meeting.
Vicki Feinmel, a member of the RIRA Common Council, complained
about bicycle riding on Main Street sidewalks and pointed to both
a lack of enforcement and a lack of signs prohibiting sidewalk
riding. Her mother, she reported, is still hospitalized after
being hit by a bicyclist just outside the Senior Center.
Ron Vass complained about a lack of patrols in Eastwood and told
the Board that residents are not getting their money's worth for
their payment of over $1.6 million a year for Public Safety
service.
Byron Gaspard read a letter to DHCR Commissioner Joseph Lynch
asking for improvements in Public Safety performance.
And Dorothy Donald chastised residents for complaining about
Public Safety, but still not attending the monthly
precinct-community meetings she arranges.
David Bauer, convener of the Maple Tree Group, told the RIOC
Board that "a plan is a plan," referring to the Island's General
Development Plan, saying, "You have no right to set it aside
without going through due process." Bauer also criticized RIOC,
urging the corporation to "pay attention to its customers, to
acknowledge its clients, and to do the things that best suit the
people you are serving."
There was no new business on the Board's agenda.
