A record turnout of 1,566 residents voted Tuesday in the Residents
Association election. Although detailed figures on voting in the general
election will not be available for another two weeks or more, there are
indications the level of interest in Island issues also drew voters to the
polls and resulted in a higher-than-usual Island turnout for those contests.
Voters returned Patrick Stewart, running unopposed, to the RIRA Presidency, but gave him a new First Vice President, Joan Christianson, who will move up from her Common Council seat as a representative of Eastwood. In most buildings, there were fewer candidates for Common Council than seats available, resulting in the election of all running. There were contests in two buildings, Rivercross and Westview. In the results listed below, numbers next to building names indicate the number of Common Council seats allocated to the building. Winners are shown in boldface type. Incumbents are indicated by the symbol i. |
