On Some Field FeesRIOC has backed away from announced fee increases for use of Island playing fields, according to those familiar with developments today.
Not yet known: How today's decision will affect the tennis program and some other Island-based sports.
Organizers of the programs report that field fees will revert to their previous level of $5 an hour, instead of going to the $25/hour announced recently by RIOC. The RIOC move was roundly by many residents at a Town Hall meeting late in March, which led to a meeting between Dr. Jerome Blue, RIOC President, and the heads of several sports programs.
Under the RIOC plan, there was a possibility the softball program for young adults may have been cancelled, or that Little League would not survive beyond the season that begins with a Main Street parade Saturday, April 19,
